Toddler Room 3
January 2026
We had a fun and busy month in our toddler classroom, filled with stories, hands-on learning, and lots of practicing independence! Our book of the month was The Mitten by Jan Brett. The children enjoyed reading this story and looking closely at the detailed pictures. During circle time this month, we also listened to a Martin Luther King Jr. song as a simple way to learn about kindness and community.
One of the highlights this month was learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children were especially excited to watch real caterpillars grow in our classroom! They loved checking on them each day and noticing how they changed. Our geography focus was Europe, we explored where Europe is on the globe and map. Children created map art and talked about different plants that grow in Europe, helping the children make connections between places and nature. The children also made mitten dot-stamping projects, inspired by our book of the month. This activity was great for building fine motor skills and letting the children be creative.
Practical life work continued to be an important part of our days. The children practiced brushing hair with a small brush, building independence and self-care skills. We also worked on walking carefully while carrying a tray, focusing on balance, control, and moving safely around the classroom.
It was a wonderful month of learning and growing together. We’re so proud of all the care and concentration the children show each day!
December 2025
We had a joyful and festive time in our classroom as we wrapped up the season before holiday break! Thank you to all the families who joined us for our holiday performance. The children were so excited to sing along to “Jingle Bells”, and it was wonderful to see their confidence and enthusiasm as they performed for you.
In the classroom, the children continued strengthening their practical life skills by practicing how to return their jobs to the shelves when finished. This work supports independence, responsibility, and care for our classroom environment. During our daily work cycle, we focused on grace and courtesy lessons, including learning how to walk around a work mat and sit beside it rather than on top of it. These lessons help the children respect each other’s work and shared space. At circle time, we emphasized the importance of being respectful and kind by practicing how to sit quietly, listen to others, and take turns. The children were encouraged to actively participate in our sing-alongs, group activities, and story time, helping build focus, language, and social skills.
We also introduced new Spanish vocabulary this month: “más” (more) and “menos” (less). The children practiced using these words naturally during lessons and daily routines. We hope you and your family have a wonderful and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on January 2nd, 2026!
November 2025
Following the rules and learning new routines is hard work but that is exactly what we did this November. Our class practiced using kind words with our friends and taking care of the classroom. With the help of our book of the month, To Fill a Bucket by Carol McCloud and Katherine Martin, we learned the value of helping others. We also practiced wiping our tables after snack and taking our things to the trash when we finished eating. It was a pleasure to meet with all of you during Parent-Teacher conferences, this collaboration is essential in building the best individualized program for each of your children.
Our Montessori curriculum led us on a journey of discovery. We talked about the names of different fruits and vegetables and practiced cutting pretend fruit on a cutting board. We were introduced to the Velcro dressing frame and practiced opening and closing the fasteners. In our math area we introduced the number 5, we named the numeral and practiced counting out five objects. In the sensorial area we investigated different textures with our fabric matching job and the sandpaper boards. As always, we were introduced to our letters of the month G and H. For art we used a variety of art mediums to create different fruits and vegetables. We had a great time sharing and trying many different foods during our Thanksgiving Feast, thank you to everyone that participated by donating.
October 2025
Our class had a busy October as we learned all about the different animals in our world. We learned the names of different animals and had fun listening and trying to guess the sounds the animals make. We are continuing to practice our Montessori classroom skills this month with a focus on sitting properly in our chairs and pushing them in when we leave a table. Thank you to everyone who brought in their family pictures for our tree, it is beginning to look full. We were so excited to see everyone that came out and participated in our Fall Carnival, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. And the best part of the month was getting to see all of our friends in their fun costumes as we did our Costume Parade and had treats at our classroom party.
We went on a leaf hunt with our book of the month, We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steven Metzger, we painted fall leaves and sorted and matched different leaf shapes. We were introduced to the letters e, f, and g; we named objects that started with each letter. We strengthened our fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination with popsicle stick posting. In the math area we continued practicing the numbers 1-3 and introduced the numbers 4-6. We sang a song called “How many fingers?” This song helped practice counting to five and working on our hand dexterity as we tried to show the quantity with our fingers. In the Sensorial area we introduced the colors orange, green, and purple. We looked for the three colors around our classroom and did farm animal stamping with green and purple.
September 2025
We are so excited to have begun a new school year! We are looking forward to getting to know each one of your children and watching them reach their milestones. Our class has been busy in September learning all about themselves and how to work in the Montessori classroom. We have been focusing on taking out one job at a time and returning it to its place on the shelves. It was great to chat with all of you during Back to School Night. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and learning of your children as we move forward through this year.
We loved our book of the month, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. We used it to talk about our families and the way they take care of us. We shared our family pictures and talked about the names of the people in our families. We also had fun learning about our letters of the week A-C, we sang a song about the sound that each letter makes and named things that start with that letter. In practical life the children learned about working on their discipline and deportment skills by practicing taking a job from the shelf to the table and replacing it where it belongs. art this month had us painting big yellow school buses to strengthen our fine motor and paintbrush skills and making handprint apples for our classroom tree. In the math area we introduced the numerals 1-3 and practiced counting to 3. In our sensorial area we introduced the colors red, yellow, and blue. We practiced saying the names of the colors and built our visual discrimination skills by sorting objects into groups by color. We also listened to the differences in loud and quiet sounds with our shaker jars.
Summer 2025
The Toddlers had an amazing time exploring everything from space to sea. We bid a fond farewell to our older friends and said hello to some new ones. The children loved all our in-house field trips. We saw a variety of insects; our favorite was the stick bug. We got to be up close and personal with reptiles. We had fun petting all the farm animals, the little piglets made us giggle. We learned about being kind during our puppet show and got to dance with a silly goose. I think the best part of our summer activities was our water play days, jumping around in the splash pad and pouring water at our water tables.
We practiced our fine motor skills with red, white, and blue Pom Pom tonging. We honed our visual discrimination skills with ocean animal matching. We experimented with all kinds of art mediums: bubble wrap stamping ice cream cones, toilet paper roll firework stamping, painting with two colors to make a snail, and squish painting our sun. We also enjoyed using all of our sensory play materials, especially trying to make round balls with playdoh.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Spirit Week activities. We are looking forward to great start to our new school year starting September 2.
