April News
In April, we will continue learning about continents, focusing on Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. Our book of the month will be Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, a fun rhyming story about the letters of the alphabet. We’re also looking forward to our annual egg hunt on April 18th—mark your calendars for a day of fun and excitement.
March Recap
In March, we welcomed the arrival of spring and celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a fun-filled spirit week. The children had a fantastic time engaging in various activities inspired by his beloved books. We read classics like Green Eggs and Ham and even got to taste the famous dish ourselves! One of the highlights was reading Ten Apples Up On Top, which sparked the children’s curiosity—so we turned it into a challenge to see how many apples they could balance on their heads. To make the celebration even more exciting, we incorporated creative arts and crafts, including Thing 1 handprint paintings and other themed projects.
As the month continued, we explored the fascinating world of dinosaurs and learned about how they lived long ago. We also discussed the importance of good hygiene, such as washing our hands and covering our mouths when sneezing, to help prevent illness. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the children had fun painting shamrocks and enjoying a festive party. A big thank you to our wonderful families for providing all the good snacks.
February Recap
February was a wonderful and enriching month in our class! We focused on the continent of Asia, Cultural Awareness, and Friendship. Our book of the month, Little Blue and Little Yellow, was a beautiful story about unity and friendship. We also learned about our first president, George Washington, and explored various animals that live on the Asian continent. We also talked a little about Black History. The children enjoyed sharing their family culture, favorite books, and a coin with the president on it during our share days.
The children continued to develop their alphabet skills, learning letter sounds and practicing tracing their names. The letters we focused on were S, T, U, and V. The children enjoyed working on Valentine’s Day activities, and they had a wonderful time at our Valentine’s Day party, where they were able to share special gifts and food with each other. This helped them to enjoy each other’s friendship and love.
January Recap
January was an exciting month for us as we kicked off the year with a focus on Antarctica, Winter, Snow, Ice, and the fascinating animals that thrive in cold climates. Our book of the month was The Mitten, which our friends thoroughly enjoyed. They loved listening to the story while learning about one of our important senses—hearing! We explored the world of penguins, discussing the different species and other animals that live in snowy environments. The fun didn’t stop there! The children got hands-on with creative activities like making fake snow using baking soda and shaving cream and painting colorful snow cubes with watercolor paint. It was a month full of learning and laughter!!
The children in our classroom have been working hard and showing wonderful focus with their Montessori activities. They are demonstrating great concentration as they prepare to take on new tasks. Continuing with our snow and ice theme, the children had the opportunity to build penguin habitats and learn about hibernation. Additionally, we explored the letters of the month—O, P, Q, and R—by learning the sounds they make. It has been a productive and engaging time for everyone!
December Recap
December was a wonderful and enriching month in our class. Introducing the book The Giving Tree and discussing the importance of caring for nature. It was such a meaningful way to start the holiday season. We incorporated holiday traditions like Hanukkah and Kwanzaa into our lesson providing a global perspective on different celebrations. We also focused on the sounds of the letters L, M, and N. The children actively explored words and objects that begin with these letters, and we will continue to practice recognizing the first letter of their names and its corresponding sound. Our students enjoyed making holiday crafts.
Our class had the joy of performing at the holiday program, where the children sang two festive songs: Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad. It was a heartwarming experience that truly showed their enthusiasm! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents who attended and supported our classroom. Your involvement means so much to us, and we truly appreciate everything you do!
November Recap
In November, our class focused on Virtues and Values, aligning perfectly with our book of the month, To Fill A Bucket. This heartwarming story emphasized the importance of showing kindness and how every person is valued when they fill others’ “buckets.” During circle time, we read the book together and discussed the significance of being a “bucket filler.” The children shared that hugs are a wonderful way to fill someone’s bucket with kindness. Additionally, the children learned the sounds of the letters I, J, and K. The children explored objects and words that begin with these letters, deepening their understanding of phonics.
We continued with a variety of engaging activities, starting with a leaf matching exercise and an art project where the children mixed autumn colors to create beautiful leaf handprints. The children also practiced routines and taking on jobs across all areas of learning, including practical life, sensorial, math, language, and geography. Before the month ended, we took time to reflect on the things we are grateful for. Unsurprisingly, family and friends, especially mommy, daddy, and our classroom companions, topped the list. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generous support and participation in our Harvest Feast. We are truly grateful to each of you.
October Recap
October has been a busy month filled with fun learning moments. All our friends have settled in and it's great to see all the accomplishments the children have been working on. Our friends have gained such confidence maneuvering around the classroom as well as working with the Montessori materials. Watching the children embrace their independence and grow has been a rewarding experience for everyone involved. They've shown remarkable progress in their ability to concentrate on tasks, as well as following the classroom structure.
One of the highlights was the art project on autumn leaves, based on our book of the month Going On a Leaf Hunt where each child was encouraged to explore and pick out their own leaf in which they crunched up to glue on their paper. During the month of October, we also got to learn about the Solar System and Space. As we discussed how many planets we have, and which planet we live in. We also compared the sun and moon.
September Recap
Our school year is off to a great start! Meeting new friends and getting to know each other can be both exciting and a little challenging. Everyone is working hard to adjust to the classroom environment. We are introducing and teaching our friends how to use the Montessori materials as well as how we use our walking feet, standing on the blue line, and how to put things away.
Our All About Me theme was a fantastic way to help everyone get to know each other better! It was nice having our first share day as our friends shared their All about Me page, where we got to learn what makes them laugh and what their dreams are. It was also special to see the family pictures. Our friends got to share and got so excited talking about their families whom they love so much. Through the month, we also engaged in creating fun art. Such as handprints to commemorate the first day of school, as well as painting school buses to practice our paintbrush skills.
Summer 2024 Recap
This summer was truly something special, filled with unforgettable moments and experiences that we will cherish. We kicked off summer with Party in The USA as we celebrated our independence day by discussing the holiday as well as making our Fourth of July crafts. We followed that up with learning about the ocean and how important it is, along with our beautiful seahorses we made using tissue paper, water, and glitter.
Throughout the summer, we enjoyed a variety of exciting in-house field trips that kept everyone entertained and engaged. We were mesmerized by the magic show, thrilled by the reptile show, delighted by the puppet show, and had a blast at our foam party. And of course, who could forget our water slide days? They were a perfect way to cool down. After splashing around, we relaxed with refreshing popsicles.
