Children's House Room 7

January 2026

Over the past few weeks, our Montessori classroom has been engaged in rich, hands-on learning across multiple subject areas. In geography, the children explored the continent of Europe using maps and globes, building awareness of the world around them. In science, we studied the life cycles of a deer, a whale, and a butterfly, comparing how each animal grows and changes over time. A highlight of this unit has been having our own caterpillars in the classroom, which allowed the children to observe the butterfly life cycle firsthand. We also enjoyed reading The Mitten, using the story to support comprehension, sequencing, and discussions about animals.

Alongside our thematic studies, the children continued developing important academic skills. We introduced multiplication through concrete Montessori materials, helping the children understand it as repeated addition. In literacy, the children worked on blending sounds and strengthening their writing skills through phonetic activities and daily practice. These experiences reflect our Montessori approach—hands-on, interconnected, and child-centered—while fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

December 2025

In December, the children learned about how different cultures celebrate the holiday season. They participated in a variety of festive activities, including holiday crafts such as candy canes and ugly Christmas sweaters. The children also practiced fine motor skills through cutting activities on our art shelf, including reindeer shapes and patterned designs on Santa’s beard.

We read The Giving Tree as our book of the month and discussed the importance of giving, receiving, and giving back. The children practiced Christmas songs throughout the month and performed beautifully during our Christmas program. We also enjoyed a classroom Christmas party, and we thank our families for their participation and support.

The children continued developing fine motor skills through works such as tweezers, stringing, and dressing frames. In language, they practiced letter sounds using songs and sandpaper letters. In math, they worked with simple addition as well as subtraction. We also focused on independence and responsibility by practicing classroom clean-up routines.

November 2025

We began the month of November, practicing using kind words towards each other and different ways we could be helpful. For example, children helped one another prepare their beds for nap time. We then read our book of the month To Fill A Bucket and had buckets of our very own. They were filled with stickers for every act of kindness they did throughout the month! It made them so happy to help others and helped them understand how much kind words can make a difference. During our circle time we discussed different ways they could be kind and helpful not only at school but at home also. The children later moved on to learning the different parts of a flag and coloring their own USA flag. We looked at different pictures with all the Landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, The Statue of Liberty, Hoover Dam and many more. The children practiced the 50 states song and were introduced to the puzzle map of California.

We continued to work on our letter sounds and numbers. We have been singing a letter sound song every morning to help remember. We also went over parts of a turkey using our 3-part cards and had a cutting worksheet to go along with it. Their favorite part was the waddle. They had the opportunity to disguise their own turkey. They had so much fun sharing their turkeys with their friends we had ballerinas, Ninjas and even an Ariel disguise! Lastly was our Thanksgiving Feast, which was absolutely amazing. The children enjoyed being surrounded by friends and sharing what they were most thankful for. Thank you to all the parents who participated and helped make our feast possible. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

October 2025

In October we welcomed fall and everything that comes with it. We talked about how the weather starts to change as well as the leaves on the trees. Children went out to the playground and noticed how some leaves were yellow others green, and some even brown and super crunchy. We read our book We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt. We made our very own sensory bin with all kinds of stuff we found outside like a pinecone and different shaped leaves. The children had so much fun doing this.

We continued to work in the classroom learning all our new work for this month. Children really enjoyed our eyeballs transferring job in practical life. The Children loved all the fun jobs. We also have really been working on learning how to complete a whole work cycle and how to work independently. Children are building their fine motor skills by using tweezers, spoons and even scissors. We have been practicing cutting with fun patters and ghost. They really enjoyed learning all about pumpkins from looking inside one to learning how they grow. We did a fun cutting page where we glued each part of a pumpkin. Lastly, we ended the month with our costume parade event, the children loved showing off all their unique costumes! Thank you, parents, for donating all those yummy treats!

September 2025

The very first month of our school year was amazing! We started off by getting to know one another through our All About Me pages. During circle time, the children shared family pictures, along with their favorite colors and foods—it was a wonderful way to build our classroom community! We then moved on to our magnetic body parts activity, which the children absolutely loved! They were also introduced to the land and water globe, and each child had the opportunity to color their own globe, identifying the land and water parts. Building on this, we explored the seven continents using our classroom map. Afterward, the children did a fantastic job coloring their own continent maps. Our Book of the Month was The Kissing Hand. This heartwarming story helped reassure children that school is a safe, fun, and exciting place to be. We followed up the reading with a creative handprint craft that they truly enjoyed.

In addition to academics, we focused on establishing classroom routines and expectations. We’ve been going over all our classroom and playground rules and learning how to maintain a clean and organized environment. The children practiced using a dustpan and spray bottle to clean their tables, which helps foster independence and responsibility. During circle time, children were introduced to several Montessori materials, including the pink tower and knobless cylinders. Our practical life shelves have become a favorite part of the classroom. A couple of the most popular activities so far include the lock and key work and the large map puzzle of the seven continents.

Summer 2025

Our summer adventure was an absolute blast! We kicked things off with our first week’s theme: Party in the USA, where the children made festive crafts like flags and glittery fireworks. Next, we explored outer space with our Planets and Space week—kids colored their own astronaut masks, completed space-themed puzzles, and dove into fun coloring sheets. Kings and Queens Week was a royal success, filled with crown and wand-making, and story time featuring kings, queens, and even dragons! Our Bugs and Insects week brought lots of excitement with sensory bins and a special visitor who introduced us to real-life creepy crawlies—the children were especially fascinated by the large roaches!

No summer is complete without water fun, and our water slide days were a favorite! The kids had a great time splashing around, sliding with friends, and sunbathing afterwards. We also enjoyed several special experiences, including a reptile show, a puppet show, and an insect show. Two amazing parents visited to teach us all about plants and dental care. Our petting zoo was a huge hit, especially the pony rides!

All in all, we had another incredible and successful summer full of fun, learning, and unforgettable memories!
